Photo Exhibition “Lençóis Maranhenses -To the Planet of Water and Wind” Fuji Photo Gallery Ginza
From April 18 (Fri.) to 24 (Thu.), I will hold the photo exhibition entitled “Lençois – To the Planet of Water and Wind” at Fuji Photo Gallery Ginza.
The Lençois Maranhenses Desert on the Atlantic coast of Brazil is a miraculous desert where as many as 20,000 lakes spring up only two months a year. The exhibition will feature photographs of this natural phenomenon, which is unique in the world.

*Date: Friday, April 18 – Thursday, April 24
*Hours: Weekdays 10:30-19:00, Saturdays and Sundays 11:00-17:00 (Last day, Thursday, until 14:00)

Concept of the exhibition
The Lençois Desert on the Atlantic coast of Brazil is a quartz white desert. Here, for only two months a year, a miraculous natural phenomenon occurs. About 20,000 lakes spring up from the ground and fill the desert with water. The white sand dunes stretching to the horizon and the countless emerald lakes create an extraordinary landscape.
This white desert was created by the trade winds blowing from the Atlantic Ocean. Over time, the waves polish the quartz, and the winds carry the sand inland to form the dunes. Deserts and lakes move like living organisms.
The name “Lençois,” meaning “sheet,” is derived from the landscape, which the dunces resemble a soft fabric rippling. The desert, whose sand grains are made of translucent quartz, subtly and vividly changes its color from pure white when the sun is in the mid-sky to orange and gold in the morning and evening.
You can feel the planet that nurtures us through these otherworldly landscapes that do not seem to be on the same planet.
